PuLi Hotel and Spa Among World’s Best New Hotels

The PuLi Hotel and Spa is Shanghai’s (map) first luxury urban resort and, while anything with the word “spa” automatically appeals to me, I’m always a little hesitant about trying a brand new property (especially if I’ve got to travel a long way to get there) since it is hard to know whether the accommodations will be up to my admittedly high standards.

If you are considering visiting The PuLi Hotel and Spa you will be pleased to learn that it has earned a place as one of the world’s best new hotels on the prestigious Condé Nast Traveller Hot List 2010.  This list, which has been published annually for the past fourteen years, provides travelers with a comprehensive guide of the “newest, hottest, sexiest hotels, restaurants and spas, opened all over the world in the past year.”

Combined with awards from Trends Magazine, Travel & Leisure Magazine and Tatler Travel Guide, the PuLi Hotel and Spa has definitely made a name for itself in the short time it has been in operation.  Since I’ve never been there, I had to learn more about it.

The PuLi Hotel and Spa offers guests handcrafted luxury service that combines traditional Asian charm with contemporary elegance which results in an experience that is very much like an oasis in the middle of a busy city.

Guest Rooms

Each room offers guests the ultimate in comfort including a 32-inch LCD TV, a Bose wave music system with iPod docking station, true high-speed wireless internet access, a Nespresso coffee machine and a rain shower.

Despite all of these modern comforts, the rooms contain elements from the past including lavabos in the bathrooms or accents, such as vases, that have been incorporated into the decor.

The accommodations range from the Deluxe Room to the Jing’An Suite (more information) and all of those room options are great but if you’re looking for the very best, consider The PuLi Club which offers guests a well-deserved and exclusive retreat.   Located between the 20th and 25th floors, the 61 Club rooms and suites offers guests the following perks:

  • Guaranteed early check-in from 6am (with arrival details)
  • Guaranteed late check-out till 11pm (with departure details)
  • 24 hour personalised GuanJia (butler) service
  • Daily RMB300 Long Bar beverage allowance (non-accumulative)
  • Complimentary full minibar and refreshments replenished daily
  • Daily in-room aperitif
  • Luxe bathroom amenities in The PuLi handcrafted amenity bag
  • Laundry and pressing service throughout your stay
  • 2 hour use of boardroom per stay (subject to availability)
  • 20% off all treatments at Anantara Spa
  • Priority for bookings at Jing’An Restaurant, Long Bar and
    Anantara Spa
  • One complimentary night for every 10 paid stays

Honestly, when you look at that list of extra benefits, The Club sounds too good to pass up!

Dining and Entertainment

Jing’An is the PuLi’s signature restaurant and offers patrons an Asian-influence international menu that they can enjoy while taking in impressive views across JingAn Park.   Using only the freshest produce available, Jing’An offers diners the unique experience of designing their own menu by creating custom dishes.

The hotel realizes that guests have different needs and offer three great options for breakfast.   Not in a rush?  Visit Jing’An for an a la carte or buffet meal.  Need privacy?  Start the day by enjoying an in-room feast (even in bed!).  Heading out?  No problem!  The PuLi offers “breakfast-on-the-go.”

Guests who just want to enjoy a snack and a cocktail can head to the Long Bar which is a 32-metre long space offering refreshments and champagne and wine by the glass.

Spa and Wellness

The third floor of The PuLi is dedicated to the spa and wellness.  Work out in the gym, swim in the infinity pool, unwind in the steam rooms and soak in the jacuzzi before indulging in some much-deserved pampering at the opulent Anantara Spa.  Comprised of five treatment suites, the spa offers individual and couples services that draws on the healing powers of different types of tea in order to leave guests with a greater sense of well-being.

he spa as well as the state of the art gymnasium, sauna, steam rooms, jacuzzi, and swimming pool, all operated by the award-winning Anantara Group, is available to all guests.
