Dawn Princess World Cruise Port of Call: Dubai
The Dawn Princess World Cruise arrived in Dubai just before the end of the Dubai’s designated cruise season. In fact, the Dawn Princess was the last cruise ship of the season which runs from 21 September until 14 June each year.
And on this, the last day of the season, with temperatures in the high 40’s, it it was easy to see why. Summer in Dubai, with temperatures consistently ranging in the 40’s and 50’s C, it is just too darn hot for visitors.
Disembarking at the Port Rashid Tourist Terminal, passengers left the air conditioned Dawn Princess and swiftly headed for the air conditioned buses waiting to transport them to various destinations.
Some, though not many, were heading for the desert. Others were aiming for the Mall of the Emirates for snow skiing and shopping. And still others at got dressed up for afternoon tea at the Burj Al Arab, the world’s only 7 star luxury hotel.
Me, I was heading for the top of the world.
To be more specific – to the Burj Khalifa, which, at 2,716 feet, is the newest and tallest building in the world.
After all, how often do you get the chance to get a bird’s eye view of a city from the 124th floor?
A quick one minute elevator ride will get you onto the viewing platform. Standing there, it was hard not to break into a chorus of ‘I’m standing on top of the world, looking down at creation’ or in this case, a matchbox version of Dubai.
It makes you wonder.
If Dubai is matchbox size when your looking down from the 124th floor, which is only three-quarters of the way to the top, what, if any thing, you would be able to see if you went all the way to the top of the Burj Khalifa.
