Sufi Music Festival Dedicated to Rumi and Khusro

Sufism has been a part of Indian culture since Sufism came to the country with the Islamic invasion of India. The beauty of this sect of Islam lies in it’s teachings, music, and peaceful approach to enlightenment. Not every Muslim will call themselves a Sufi, but every Sufi saint will have following of both Muslims and Hindus. It’s wonderful how this little sect has been accepted by people following very different religions.
Delhi will be hosting a Sufi Music Festival, which is dedicated to Rumi And Khusro. The musicans, Ustad Adil Hussain & troupe, are coming all the way from Hyderabad. Before you attend the programme, here is a little about Sufism, Rumi and Khusro.
About Sufism
Sufism is considered the mystical side of Islam. Sufism means the selfless experiencing and actualization of the Truth. The practice of Sufism is the intention to go towards the Truth, by means of love and devotion. A Sufi is a person who is a lover of Truth, who by means of love and devotion moves towards the Truth.
About Rumi
Mowlana Jalaluddin Rumi is one of the great spiritual masters of Sufism. He was the founder of the Mawlawi Sufi order. Rumi was born in Wakhsh (Tajikistan) on 30th September, 1207 to a family of learned theologians. His poetry was truly profound.
About Khusro
Amir Khusro was born in 1253 in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. His father Amir Saifuddin came from Afghanistan. His mother from modern day Delhi. At age 18 Khusro compiled his first divan of poetry, “Tuhfatus-Sighr”. He wrote in both Persian and Hindustani. He also spoke Turkish, Arabic and Sanskrit. His poetry is still sung today at Sufi shrines throughout Pakistan and India.
