Yes, Now You Can EATLACMA

When food and art merge together, it’s exciting to see how people from different walks of life interpret what they eat. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is hosting a yearlong celebration devoted to these two subjects called EATLACMA. The project begins with the Fruit of LACMA exhibition curated by Fallen Fruit and ends with a one-day event, “Let Us Eat LACMA”.

The Fruit of LACMA and Gardens of LACMA will open to the public on Sunday, June 27, 2010. Here the members of Fallen Fruit will curate pieces from the museum’s existing permanent collections. This will include paintings, photographs, and decorative arts. Also, Fallen Fruit will present some of their new work like “Show Us How You Eat”, a series of videos submitted by the public. Another interesting feature of EATLACMA will be The Gardens of LACMA that will allow visitors to tour artist-designed gardens. Through their gardens, artists examine public space, food in terms of actuality and as symbols, and the people that derive meaning from them.  Finally,“Let Them Eat LACMA” will culminate EATLACMA on Sunday, November 7, 2010. Here over 50 artists and collectives will work together to examine the museum and its galleries.

Fallen Fruit began in 2004 with three artists: David Burns, Matias Viegener, and Austin Young. They uncover how nature’s candies, fruit, intersect with private/public property, social rituals, sustainability, personal relationships, and more.
