Fire Knife Dance

PlaneteEye Traveler’s Budget Travel meets the Houston Guide!  At the suggestion of our own Abbie Mood, I signed up for TravelZoo alerts, which delivered this great deal to my inbox: $30-$40 off tickets for Cirque du Soleil’s “Alegria”, which will be performed at the Berry Center in Cypress, TX, located about 45 minutes outside of Houston.  Yet another great reason to sign up for TravelZoo alerts!

Alegria began in Montreal in 1994 and currently tours in the US and Canada.  Alegria means “elation” or “joy” which is delivered to audiences via original music - performed live - and a stunning acrobatic show that includes hand-balancing, sychronized trapeze, fire-knife dancing, aereal high bars, contortion, and more.  The show is 2 1/2 hours in length (there is an intermission) and combines art, music and athleticism for high-drama excitement.

What: Cirque du Soleil’s “Alegria”

Where: Berry Center, 8877 Barker-Cypress Road, Cypress, TX (map)

When: The show runs from Wednesday June 16 – Sunday June 20.  Ticket deals apply to the following shows (for TravelZoo subscribers): Wednesday 6/16 7:30 PM, Thursday 6/17 7:30 PM, Friday 6/18 3:30 PM & 7:30 PM.  Sale price tickets for TZ subscribers must be booked by June 9.

Tickets: Level 1 & 2 seats are $80 for adults & $64 for children ($50 &$24, respectively, for TZ subscribers).  A fee of up to $5.75 may be applied per ticket, for both regular and sale price tickets.

Tips: Directions to the Berry Center.  Phone them for more information at 281.894.3900.

Author’s Note: Don’t hesitate to sign up for great deals online because you hate a clogged inbox.  Rather, create a “throwaway” account at a web-based email provider (Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail) that you use only when signing up for online promotions or accounts that will send notifications you do not wish to receive in work or personal email accounts.
