Rock in Rio Comes to Madrid!

2629259284_d76db52230 As if there are not enough music festivals to entertain the crowd this summer, the biggest mega music festival is hitting Madrid this June. Claiming fame as the biggest music festival in the world, Rock in Rio has its roots in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where it all started in 1985. It then took the stage in Portugal in 2004 and 2008 before deciding to make its first Spanish edition in Madrid in 2008. Since then, it’s been a huge hit among music lovers from all over the Mediterranean.

City of Rock

An entire ‘City of Rock’ will be set up in Arganda del Rey (map), in the outskirts of Madrid. Spanning over a massive area of 200,000 square meters, the entire musical and entertainment park is decked out in a carnival atmosphere. Expect a giant ferris-wheel, rows of food, drinks and entertainment stalls and all-night-long partying! The impressive Star Fountain in the centerstage of the venue sees color and water dancing to the music’s rhythm. There is a free shuttle that brings you from the Santiago Bernabeu stadium to the City of Rock.

Music Genre

This mega pop, rock and dance festival promises an ecclectic mix of music from different genres: from electronic to mainstream pop and hiphop. This year, Rock in Rio has an impressive lineup of performers, with world-famous artistes taking its stage. Bon Jovi, Shakira, John Mayer, Rihanna and Miley Cyrus will all be rocking the stage and crooning the crowd, while metallic bands like Metellaica, Motorhead and Rage Against the Machine will be kicking up a storm. For the electronic dance fans, you’ll be thrilled to hear big names like Paul van Dyke and Axwell.

Ticket Prices

Day tickets come at a hefty price of 69euros, and are available for purchase online or at any El Corte Ingles store. There is a 10euro discount for students and El Corte Ingle cardholders.

When

The concerts are held from 4 to 6 June and on 11 and 14 June. Check out the official website for program and detailed schedule.
