They Say Living in Lisbon is Great

Recently, Mercer Company released Its annual “Worldwide Quality of Living Survey”. These last three years, Lisbon has managed to raise 12 places on the global ranking, placing it on the 45th place, in front of other 176 cities that include Madrid, New York and Rome.

I think this is the result of all the effort we’ve been seeing in Lisbon for the last decade. Streets are cleaner, traffic is much more controlled and organized, access to the city is much better than before. Lisbon has the highest grades on relations with other countries and on the social and cultural levels. It has an excellent net of electricity, water and telecommunications supply, as much as global consuming goods. Also, in Lisbon we have a great offer of foreign schools, excellent banking and health care services. Above all, we have low risk of natural disaster occurrence and a great weather. We have gone a long way, that’s true. It’s also true that we still have a long way to go.

There is still too much traffic and too many car accidents. Public transportation, although has been improving, is still far from good. With all this, pollution is still too high. The Eco-Ranking placed Lisbon on the 75th over 221 cities.

Lisbon has been receiving many Travel Destination Awards for the last couple of years. Also, many are the foreign visitors that fall in love with this city and decide never to part again. That may not only be the results of all the effort we’ve seen this last decade, but also and above all a great incentive to keep improving. There is no doubt that Lisbon is a great place to visit and to live in. There aren’t many cities in the world I would trade Lisbon for.
