Guten Tag! Epcot’s Germany Pavilion
One of my favorite theme parks within Walt Disney World Resort (map) is Epcot (map) and more specifically, the World Showcase. I love the fact that as a guest, you can visit so many different “countries” for five minutes or for several hours and feel totally immersed in the culture or perhaps even a fairy tale.
The Germany Pavilion is no exception as this section within the World Showcase was designed after a 16th-century German town with its elaborate architecture and cobble stoned streets. Appealing to all the senses, Germany delights guests with authentic foods, lively entertainment and splendid shops.
Grab a quick bite at Sommerfest, or linger over delicious German baked goods at Sussigkeiten. You won’t want to miss the daily wine tastings at the Weinkeller.
Biergarten Restaurant serves up a traditional German buffet for lunch and dinner in a twilight setting. Entering the darkened restaurant, guests feel the immediate relief from the blazing Florida sun, and are pulled into the coolness of the surroundings.
Music and merriment flood the hall as parties of guests are joined together sitting at long communal tables. While this may not be for everyone, our family was caught up in the festival atmosphere and oom-pah-pahed right along with the crowd.
It is a good thing guests are encouraged to dance and join in the fun, as I found it quite difficult to stay still. Then again, I do love to embarrass my teen, and according to her, I do it quite well!
While in Germany Pavilion, shop for authentic steins at Der Bucherwurm, inspired by a merchants’ hall in the Black Forest, or beautiful crystal jewelry at Kunstarbeit in Kristall. Little ones will be enchanted with Der Teddybar, an amazing toy store and everyone loves the famous candies like Haribo Gummi candy and Gold Bears and a variety of chocolates.
Keep your eyes open as Disney characters from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs often make an appearance in and around Germany Pavilion. Also making appearances throughout the day is Oktoberfest Musikanten, an energetic musical group dressed in lederhosen performing a fun-filled show in the Biergarten Restaurant or outside in the courtyard. Be sure to check the Times Guide for performance times and scheduled meet and greets.
Whether you plan to sit and stay awhile to enjoy the Oktoberfest atmosphere of the Biergarten Restaurant or only have time for a quick trip through Germany, guests of all ages can enjoy the Germany Pavilion of Epcot.
