Nightwalk: A Look at Street Life in Old Delhi
The Jamghat group organizes night walks for people interested in taking a look at the tougher side of life in Delhi, including a look at:
- Street children abusing and using harmful substances
- People begging for their living
- Survival of families on the streets
- How food for daily survival is obtained
- The homeless
During the 5.5 k.m. walk, you also learn about Old Delhi and its history. Jamghat Outreach is a non-profit organization that runs a day care center at Kabootar (Pigeon) Market.
This walk is not for the weak-hearted. You’ll see some of the most impoverished people on this planet, furthering the cycle of despair by spending what little hard earned money they have on drugs and gambling. As you walk, you’ll learn about the various initiatives taken up by the Jamghat group to change the things you’ll see.
Before you take the walk, you’ll need to following these rules:
- Do not carry cameras.
- Ladies should preferably wear Indian attire or jeans with a full sleeved top, i.e do not show skin. This is to ensure safety.
- Do not give money to children on the streets.
As this part of Delhi is not particularly safe, make sure you adhere to the rules mentioned above.
