Leonardo da Vinci: Man, Inventor, Genius
Leonardo da Vinci: Man, Inventor, Genius exhibit
Move over Iron Man, Leonardo da Vinci designed a mechanical suit of armor centuries ago. You can see a model of it, as well as 60+ other replicas of various machines designed by the world’s most famous Renaissance man at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History from now until September 6th, 2010. Many of the machines are available for hands-on exploration, giving visitors a chance to turn cranks, levers and pulleys on these innovative designs.
The models for Leonardo da Vinci: Man, Inventor, Genius were created in Florence, Italy by carefully following the drawings and instructions in Da Vinci’s famous notebooks. What Leonardo lacked in formal education he made up for in sheer observation and creative thought, and his influence can still be seen in art, military devices, engineering and aviation.
Additionally, from May 28th-31st, 2010 the museum is hosting an event called LeoFest! in its Innovation Studios, which are located in the lower part of the museum. This area features fun, hands-on activities for kids of all ages throughout the year. Special LeoFest! activities include building simple machines, creating a personal sketchbook, parachute making and more. Innovation Studios activities are always included in the price of museum admission.
