Berry Picking in Niagara

As you drive through Niagara, it soon becomes apparent that the Region is much more than a famous waterfall. Wide open spaces, rolling vineyards, fresh fruit stands and tall forests: Niagara is all about nature. One of the best ways to experience the natural element Niagara is increasingly becoming known for is by going to a pick your own berry farm. It’s a great way to spend a summer’s day, and there is something very satisfying about filling up your own little basket of fruit that you just picked off the vine (or tree, or bush).

Here are some of the places to pick your own fruit in Niagara:

The Berry Patch (map), a pick your own farm located in Jordan. You can pick currants, gooseberries, black berries blueberries and raspberries. The farm is generally open from July to August from 8am to 4pm.

Bry-Anne Farms (map), is located in Fenwick, and you can pick your own strawberries and raspberries (and pumpkins in October).

James C. Richardson Farms (map), is located in Dunnville and also has strawberries and raspberries available to pick.

Life’s A Peach Farm (map), is located in Beamsville and you can pick your own cherries, plums and pears.

And these are just some of the farms offering pick your own varieties of fruit! For a full listing, go here. There are dozens to choose from! The best thing is not only are you able to pick your own fruit, but the farms usually have tons of other yummy vegetables and fruits available for sale too. Fruit picking makes for an interesting summer activity; it’s something different to do, and it will expose you to a very important side of Niagara that not a lot of tourists get to see.
