Hot Happenings: Week of May 24

From wine tastings to restaurant openings to healthy dining options, take your pick on our favorite must-do activities for this upcoming week.

Spicy yellowtail at ZUMA

Monday, May 24: I was lucky enough to be invited to ZUMA last week for a sneak peek at London’s award winning restaurant, and today they are opening their doors to the public. This modern take on Japanese cuisine is the brainchild of German chef Rainer Becker, and if you are ready to awaken your senses, a visit to ZUMA is a must do. Both the King Crab with ponzu lime butter ($21) and the spicy yellowtail roll with serrano pepper and wasabi mayo ($12.5) are foodgasmic. ZUMA will serve lunch and dinner from Monday-Saturday. It is located on the ground floor of EPIC Hotel & Residences at 270 Biscayne Boulevard Way in Miami. 305.577.0277 (map)

Wednesday, May 26: Gibraltar at Grove Isle is kicking off their Wine on the Water Wednesdays with a selection of Fess Parker wines. For $15, guests can tantalize their taste buds, while they enjoy five different wines and move to the sounds of D.J. Guillo Cartaya. RSVP to 305.857.5007. (map)

Thursday, May 27: Fondue — you either love it or you hate it. If you love it, this dinner is for you. The Melting Pot in Palm Beach Gardens is hosting a 4-course California wine dinner with Joel Gott. This dinner will feature the ’08 Chardonnay, ’08 Sauvignon Blanc, ’07 815 Cabernet Sauvignon and ’07 Zinfandel. Cost is $39 and the dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. Tax and gratuity are additional. 561.624.0020 The Melting Pot is located at 11811 US Hwy 1 in Palm Beach Gardens. (map)

Friday, May 28: Taste Gastropub, the latest creation by Chef Allen opened quietly a few weeks ago in Delray Beach, but Friday is the big day when they will be celebrating their grand opening celebration. From 4-7 p.m., guests [or as they say the locals] will be treated to complimentary cocktails, gourmet bites and a whole lot of fun in this new energizing addition to Delray. Taste is located at 169 NE 2nd Avenue in Delray Beach. (map)

For your weekend dining — And you thought you couldn’t enjoy a decadent meal because you are watching your weight? Think again. Henry’s in Boca Raton just launched their spa menu, and every entree has 490 calories or less. Rosemary Roasted Scottish Salmon, Herb Roasted Australian Lamb Chops, Free Range Chicken Curry are just a few of the offerings. Each comes with split pea soup, gazpacho or a summer garden salad. Henry’s s located at 16850 Jog Road, Delray Beach. (map)
