Cirque du Soleil Presents Quidam in Buenos Aires
After the success of its shows Saltimbanco and Alegría, Cirque du Soleil, the world famous circus company, is back in Buenos Aires presenting its spectacular show “Quidam“, beginning May 28.
Quidam, pronounced “key-dam”, is a Latin word for an anonymous passerby, a solitary figure lingering on a street corner, a person rushing past, living lost amidst the crowd. It could be anyone, anybody. Someone coming, going, living in our anonymous society. A member of the crowd, one of the silent majority. The one who cries out, sings and dreams within us all. Quidam transforms an anonymous world into a place of hope and connection. Quidam is a thrilling combination of acrobatic artistry, technical expertise, extravagant design and exceptional musical.
About the set… Presented in the 2,544 seat state of the art Grand Chapiteau, Quidam turns gravity on its head with an impressive 120-feet overhead conveyor made up of five imposing rails which takes up the entire interior roof surface of the Grand Chapiteau. This system is used to bring artists onto the stage and to create a multitude of special effects. The 387 square-foot stage consists of aluminium panels that were custom-drilled, folded, structured and covered with mondo. The 34-foot diameter turntable can turn in two directions, in different speeds and can support up to 50 people.
About the cast… 15 countries are represented in the 51-artist cast of Quidam: 15 are from Russia, 10 from the USA, 5 from Canada, 5 from Australia, 4 from China, 3 from Brazil, 1 from Argentina, 1 from France, 1 from Germany, 1 from Great Britain, 1 from Hungary, 1 from Japan, 1 from Kazakhstan, 1 from New-Zealand and 1 from Ukraine. The cast is made up of dancers, acro-gymnasts, contortionists, aeralists, clowns, actors, musicians, vocalists, and circus artists.
This is the “quidam” that Cirque du Soleil is celebrating.
