Northwest Folk Life Festival Kicks Off Seattle Summer

Memorial Day Weekend launches the Seattle summer season, and one of the classic holiday weekend events is the Northwest Folklife Festival.  Now in its 39th year, Folklife is an eclectic combination of music, dance, storytelling, and play that brings the community together in a giant weekend celebration.  This multi-cultural,family friendly event has hundreds of performances and interactive activities, giving fans of all ages a chance to enjoy, relax, explore, and experience something new.

The list of performances and activities is incredible, so check the Folklife schedule of events to find what interests you.  You can print out a version to take with you, just to be certain you to don’t miss out on anything.  And be sure to follow the Folklife blog to learn about some of the entertainers and events.

Wear layers, and bring an umbrella or some rain gear.  The show goes on rain or shine!

Location: Seattle Center campus (map)

Dates & Times: Memorial Weekend, May 28th – 31st.  Events start at 11 am each day, running till 10 pm, Friday through Sunday, and till 9 pm on Monday.

Admission: FREE, although a suggested donation of $10/person or $20/family is requested to help defray expenses.

Parking:  Street parking in minimal, although there are several pay lots are in the area.  Those parking spots will go fast, so carpooling, walking, biking, or public transportation is recommended.
