Yummy Meals at Mumm’s on the Myall, Tea Gardens

I have fond memories of summer holidays spent at my grandma’s on-site van in Hawks Nest. My sister and I would play on the sand dunes, and Grandma would take us to look at the bargain shops in nearby Tea Gardens. I hadn’t returned to the tiny coastal town for several decades, and while it’s retained its small town feel I was stunned at the growth. coloured fish

These days Tea Gardens is home to a host of cafes and restaurants which make the most of the views of Myall Lakes. During our visit we made a stop at Mumm’s on the Myall, and we weren’t disappointed. We arrived just before the kitchen closed, but the friendly staff insisted that so long as we ordered quickly it was no problem.

The menu was well balanced with old favourites and modern Australian meals. It might not be very exciting, but I can never resist the humble fish and chips when dining in a seafood restaurant. If a restaurant can do fish and chips well, I am a happy girl. Mumms can; the batter was light and crispy while the fish was melt-in-your-mouth fresh. My husband was equally enthusiastic about his gourmet burger with its homemade onion jam.

The restaurant had emptied by the time we finished, but the staff insisted we had time for dessert. I had no room, but my husband was only too happy to polish off a crème brulee. While he feasted I savored the last of our wine and chatted to the staff who never made us feel like our lingering presence was an imposition.

Mumm’s on the Myall offers a simple dining experience with just a hint of flash. There’s just enough interesting options on the menu to keep city slickers happy, and the portions are much more generous than their Sydney counterparts.
