Trade Sydney Traffic for the Green Tranquility of Bombah Point Eco Cottages

There’s nothing like a getaway to the country to recharge your batteries. Last weekend my husband I left the hustle and bustle of the city far behind for a stay at Bombah Point Eco Cottages.

Bombah Point is just two and a half hours drive from Sydney, but it seems much farther from the big smoke. The air is clear, the cows stand by the side of the dirt roads, and the people are friendly. Nestled amongst the gum trees you’ll find Bombah Point Eco Cottages.

The word cottage conjures up ideas of basic living, but nothing could be further from the truth. The six private dwellings are massive. You can comfortably sleep five inside, so the space felt very luxurious for the two of us. There are full kitchen facilities, including all the gadgets you need for whipping up a feast. We did just that on our first night, with a little help from the property’s herb garden.

Of course you don’t need to cook. Hosts Kim and Rob are happy to do the hard work and prepare a cooked breakfast, a gourmet barbeque, or a picnic hamper for you to enjoy offsite. There are also a few pubs and clubs in nearby Bulahdelah, and delicious seafood restaurants if you drive half an hour to Tea Gardens or Hawks Nest. For us though, the chilly autumn weather made staying in near the fireplace a tempting proposition.

Our first night was spent munching on our meal and relaxing with a couple of DVDs procured from the games room. There’s a pool table there too and more books than you could ever read on your stay. Just outside you’ll find the pool; it’s too chilly to use at this time of year but it must be lovely during summer.

We stayed for two nights which were over far too soon. As a person who attempts to live green, I love Bombah Point’s commitment to eco-friendly practices. Nothing tastes as good as the tank water, and while the solar powered lights aren’t as bright as the ones back home they helped to set the perfect romantic mood. It makes it so much easier to enjoy your holiday when you know your carbon footprint is minimal.

It was hard to leave Bombah Point, and now that I’m home, where I wake up to barking neighbourhood dogs and traffic, it’s hard to be back!
