Considered to be the premier shopping area in Boston, Newbury Street stretches for eight blocks from Arlington Street to Mass Avenue and features an eclectic mix of more than 300 retailers, restaurants, and salons. Trend-setter types will find lots to like here, including these recent arrivals.
Lovely $200 frocks for women and hipster- London wear for the guys, Ted Baker ( 201 Newbury St., Boston, 617-450-8339)(Map) , the high-end British fashion retailer, has finally set up shop in Boston. Colorful, stylish and modern- practically every home can use a little of Adler’s ”happy chic”. You’ll find lots of tabletop- lacquer boxes, stationery, pottery, and covetable big stuff- furniture, lamps, and rugs- too.
Another retailer from across the pond, Allsaints Spitalfields (122 Newbury St., Boston, 617-517-0894)(Map) brings an alternative to mainstream fashion with grunge and goth-inspired clothing and accessories for men and women. The store’s spring’s window display of 100 antique sewing machines is drawing crowds.
Note: Most of the Newbury Street shops do not make their restrooms available- even to paying customers. The Borders Bookstore ( 338 Newbury St., Boston , 617-236-1444)(Map), approximately halfway down Newbury at Clarendon St. has public restrooms on the second floor.
