Research Sources to Discover Buenos Aires

The city of Buenos Aires (map) is packed with tourists enjoying its many attractions. On many occasions, both tourists and locals find themselves needing a practical guide. There are a number of useful guides of services and activities as well as important phone numbers available which can be accessed by cell-phone, Internet or in person.

For example, el Portal de Turismo de la Ciudad (the city’s website) has decided to modernize and integrate its traditional service to a system that allows browsing its website in a format adapted to the screen of the cell phone. Using any device that allows WAP navigation, simply enter wap.bue.gov.ar , where you will find important information in Spanish, Portuguese or English, such as police stations, hospitals, tourist information points and more. Also, you will find lodging information (thanks to a search by neighbourhood and category engine), places to eat, and cultural activity in Buenos Aires. Everything has its place in this site open to visitors.

For further information and details of the history of Buenos Aires, you can drop by el Centro de Documentación turística de la Ciudad (Tourist Documentation Centre of the City), a public library specializing in tourism that meets the queries of students, teachers, researchers, professionals and the general public. The bibliographic heritage is composed of material relating to general aspects of the city: its history, architecture, attractive neighbourhoods and statistical information as well as technical materials, official documents, legislation, specialized literature, magazines and more. The Centre also has a video library and a consultancy service with response to e-mail. The library is located at Avenida Carlos Pellegrini 217, Barrio San Nicolas (map). Its phone number is (54 11) 4322 5989 and it is open Monday to Friday form 10:30 to 16:30 hs.
