A Short List of Absolute Must See and Do in Buenos Aires

Here is a short list of absolute must see or do in Buenos Aires. Further detailed information about each attraction can be found on previous articles or in days to come…

1- Visit the Plaza de Mayo, at the center of the city. Here you will find the Casa Rosada (the Government Palace), the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Cabildo (historical landmark).

2- Cafe Tortoni, on Avenida de Mayo, is the oldest cafe in the city and a sight in itself.

3- The murals in the Galerías Pacífico shopping mall, great artwork by Antonio Berni and other Argentine artists, located at the intersection of the pedestrian street calle Florida and Avenida Córdoba, right in the center of Buenos Aires.

4- The pedestrian shopping streets Florida and Lavalle.

5- The Recoleta neighborhood, where the Recoleta cemetery is located, where you will find the tomb of Evita. Also found here is the beautiful Church of Pilar, a picturesque weekend flea market, many cafes and restaurants, and beautiful trees, parks and monuments.

6- San Telmo’s Sunday antique market, a total must.

7- The little cobblestone street called “Caminito” in La Boca, during the daytime.

8- El Ateneo bookstore on Avenida Santa Fe (between Riobamba and Callao), absolutely beautiful.

9- Puerto Madero, the newest district of Buenos Aires, with an incredible number of restaurants located at the restored warehouses of the port.

10- The district of Palermo, with all of its parks: the Japanese Garden, the Rose Garden, the Botanical Garden, the Zoo, and more.

11- El teatro Colón. Do a tour of the premises or go see a performance, it is beautiful (check the website since it has been under renovation lately).
