6 Free (or Almost Free!) Things to Do: Orange County

Orange County in California is known more for spending money than saving it, but there are actually many things to do for the budget-conscious traveler. Next time you’re visiting Southern California, check out one of these free (or almost free) activities!

1.  Summer Concert Series, various cities

Many of the cities in Orange County offer concerts throughout the summer, and the best part is that they’re all free!  For a complete list of cities and for more information, visit this Orange County entertainment website.

2.  Huntington Beach Main Street and Pier, Main Street & Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach

The Huntington Beach Pier

Huntington Beach’s Main Street is filled with restaurant and laid back surf shops.  It’s a great place to start a day at the beach, or to end a day at the beach, when Main Street’s bars really come alive!

The pier is a great place to watch a surfer catch a wave or grab a burger at Ruby’s Diner.

3.  Tour the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Stadium, 2000 E. Gene Autry Way in Anaheim (map)

For just $3 for adults and $2 for children, get a behind-the-scenes tour of the baseball stadium, including the Press Box, Clubhouse, and Dugout!  For more information, visit the Angels’ website.

4. Orange County Great Park balloon ride, Orange County Great Park in Irvine (map)

The helium balloon goes up 400 feet on a cable, giving an amazing view of Orange County.  Rides are free.  Admission and parking is free as well, so be sure to check out the rest of the park while you are there!

5.  Bowers Museum, 2002 North Main Street in Santa Ana (map)

Bowers Museum has free admission on the first Sunday of everything month. There is also an attached Kidseum that is the only cultural arts based museum for kids in Orange County.

6.  Fullerton Arboretum, 1900 Associated Road in Fullerton (map)

This sprawling 26 acre botanical garden has four amazing major collections – Cultivated, Woodlands, Mediterranean, and Desert. The Fullerton Arboretum doesn’t just feature exhibits, there are lectures, classes and workshops for adults and children, as well as special holiday events.  Visit the Fullerton Arboretum website for more information.
