Show Your Pink Pride at These Breast Cancer Awareness Events

With May being one of the National Breast Cancer Awareness months, it’s a good time to show your “pink pride” in Chicago and support research for finding a cure.

Several events are going on in Chicago this May and June in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness.

Top events include:

Facials with Karma Healing Solutions on May 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Flourish Studios (3020 N. Lincoln Ave.; map).

Fit-Fest 2010 on May 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Park Hyatt Chicago 800 North Michigan Ave.; map) that will include several fitness classes (including Yoga, Core Fusion, Cardio Hip Hop, Pilates and more) with some of Chicago’s top exercise gurus. Manicures, massages and nutritional consultations will also be offered.

The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer will take place on the weekend of June 5-6 and will go along Chicago’s popular lakefront and past several of the city’s iconic architecture structures and through its multi-cultural neighborhoods.

On June 27, there will be a High Tea event The Drake (140 East Walton Place; map) called For the Women We Love from 1 to 4 p.m. that will benefit national educational programming for young women at risk for breast and ovarian cancers. Ticket prices start at $65.

Chicago’s dedication to breast cancer awareness isn’t limited to the summer. On September 25, the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure 5K takes place in downtown Chicago’s Grant Park, and for the first time this year, there will be a Race for the Cure 5K in the suburbs of Chicago at the Yorktown Center in Lombard on September 26. The Race for the Cure 5K is one of Chicago’s most popular running events and as the Susan G. Koman Web site says, “To say that there’s a sea of runners and walkers forming a pink human-ribbon throughout the city streets is no exaggeration.”

Our family has participated in the Race for the Cure in Charlotte and Indianapolis. My favorite part of the Indianapolis race runs behind the zoo, the elephant is always there, sporting a pink ribbon, to greet the walkers. It is such a moving and emotional event, I take a pack of kleenex every year.

Jenni – that sounds like an amazing event, and the elephant! How cute! Thanks so much for sharing about that event.
