Have it Your Way at Goofy’s Candy Co.

I have a confession to make… when it comes to sweets, I have a  huge sweet tooth.  Chocolates, caramels, soft and gooey, crispy or chewy, I don’t care, I love it all! That is what makes Goofy’s Candy Co. one of my favorite shops in Downtown Disney (map) .

This wonderful store carries a large variety of candies and special treats sure to satisfy your every craving.  Pre-packaged shortbread cookies, crackers, coffees, teas and hot chocolate mixes line several walls of the brightly colored shop.  Other walls are lined with bins full of candies just waiting to be scooped up and weighed.

My favorite area of the store stands right in the middle and calls out to any chocolate lover, the Create Your Own Treat counter.  Guests walk up to the counter, grab an order blank and order the ultimate treat, created exactly the way they want it, step after chocolaty step.

  1. Guests choose a base ingredient from a list.  Choices include pretzel rods, a gingerbread Mickey or other variety of cookie, marshmallows, rice crispy treat or caramel apple.
  2. White, Milk or Dark chocolate is selected as the one dipping “flavor” covering the base treat.
  3. Sprinkles, chopped nuts, crushed cookies, candy pieces, coconut or white and chocolate chips are selected next as the topping.  One topping choice comes with your treat, but since no one can stop at one, additional toppings are available for $1.00 each.
  4. The final option is the choice of drizzle, chocolate, of course, selected from white, milk or dark.

After placing your order, guests can walk around the glass enclosed counter and watch the team of experts dip, sprinkle and drizzle the most amazing treats, each looking tastier and more tempting than the next.  So tempting that I immediately hopped in line, small wooden pencil in hand and purely in the name of research, placed several orders with a variety of toppings.

The caramel apples looked so amazing and appeared to take the longest to prepare,  I vowed to purchase one before the week’s end and ordered a rice crispy treat instead.  This treat was shockingly sweet, even for me.

An order of marshmallows came as four large marshmallows placed end to end on a reusable Mickey straw.  While this treat was consumed fastest, the straw was a nice souvenir.

The pretzel rods seemed the easiest to eat while walking around Downtown Disney.   Though I sneered when my youngest Disney traveler opted to have them sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar, I have to admit, I think it was my favorite treat.

In all our visit to Goofy’s Candy Co. was a fun, entertaining and delicious experience.  As I licked the last traces of chocolate from my lips, I commented, “Next time, I’m gonna try …..”
