Bookworms Alert! Cosy Second-hand Bookstore in Madrid
One of my personal favorite hangout in Madrid is the in downtown Madrid. A self-confessed bookworm and guidebook buff (don’t ask me why!), I spend hours holed up in J&J’s basement, scoaring through the enormous collections of books it has.
Chillout Cafe
From recently published novels to English-teaching guide, the whole store is chalked full of interesting reads and a cosy ambiance. For a cuppa of latte, Â lounge around in its cafe, devouring a brownie while reading your book. It’s also equipped with WiFi internet connection, so feel free to bring your laptop with you. Bossa nova background music will set you in the right mood for some chill-out time.
Quiz Night
Another of my favorite event that J&J organizes is the Friday evening Quiz Nights. Every friday at 11pm, the cafe holds a round of quizzes to test your general knowledge. Participants group up in threes or fours and shout out the answer when you have it.
Intercambio Nights
On Wednesday and Thursday nights, from 8pm onwards, you can also gather here for a language exchange, or intercambio. Mingle with Spanish folks, learn about their culture and get an interesting multi-cultural exchange experience.
Special Drinks Prices
For the drinkers, alcohol prices here are reasonably priced, especially during happy hours. From Mondays to Thursdays 4pm to 7pm, you get 2 drinks for the price of 1. Saturday specials also include cañas for 1euro and cocktails for 3.50euros.
