Chicago’s Best Facial Will Give You That Red Carpet Glow

I’d consider myself a spa expert. I have been reporting on and writing about spas for over a decade. I’ve been fortunate enough to be have been pampered in India, Thailand, China, Ireland, Brazil, and Italy, to name a few places, and in almost every state of the U.S.

Even with all these world travels, one of my favorite spas happens to be in my current hometown of Chicago: The Spa at Trump at the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago (401 North Wabash, 14th Floor; map it).

One of the reasons The Spa at Trump impresses me is that it is one of the few places where I have gotten a facial and have actually noticed a significant difference in my skin.

In fact, after the facial, people not knowing I had gotten one, kept complimenting my skin. There was a youthful glow about my face. It’s not that I have not gotten great facials at other spas. I have. It is just that this particular facial at The Spa at Trump made my skin literally look years younger.

The facial was the Kate Somerville facial, which is promoted to give you that “Red Carpet Glow” and it delivers on what it promises.

The facial includes oxygen and dermalucent light therapy, as well as a pressure point massage (and even a foot massage).

I shouldn’t have been surprised at good this facial would be. Kate Somerville is one of the leading paramedical estheticians in the world and has been coined the “A-list Beauty Guru” – hence the Red Carpet Glow you get after one of her facials. Good news for Chicagoans: Kate will actually be at The Spa at Trump on May 6 from 3 to 5 p.m. where she will be promoting her new book Complexion Perfection ($27.95). At the event you can buy a copy of Kate’s book signed by her while also enjoying complimentary spa elixirs and hors d’oeuvres. (A cash bar will also be available.) Here’s the best part: You can experience a free mini treatment of the DermalQuench – one of Kate’s most frequently requested services. Tip: The first 100 guests will receive a special gift bag that will include signature products from Kate’s line. Reservations are recommended and may be made with Grace Kaufman at 312-588-8051 or gkaufman@trumphotels.com.

Other reason I like The Spa at Trump is for its space: 23,000 square feet of it that includes a relaxation area with fresh fruit and herbals teas and a women’s locker room with a steam, sauna, and a Kohler deluge shower that comes with nine separate jets, mood lighting, and music.

If you really want to indulge, post spa, spend the night in one of the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago’s Spa Guestrooms that include:

  • Heated neck and eye pillows.
  • Yoga mats, blocks, and straps.
  • Yoga DVDs.
  • Hand weights.
  • Healthy mini-bar items.
  • Flameless candles.
