The 2010 Fort Worth Mayfest is coming up April 29th – May 2nd. Now in its 38th year, this event boosts the Fort Worth area by returning 100% of all profits (nearly $6 million to date) right back into community programs.
It all takes place at Trinity Park with activities spread across 33 acres, which is good, since over 200,000 people are expected to attend. This family-friendly event has activities for all ages. With so much going on, it’s easy to make a day of it.
There’s a free children’s area with 20 activity booths to keep the younguns entertained, a special area for teens called The Zone, and for those in need of some thrills, there’s the Terror on the Trinity Haunted House.
The Great American Duck Race is good clean fun, although you might feel a splash or two if you are one of the lucky ducks chosen to hold and release a mallard at the starting line. Other attractions include a miniature train to ride around the park, a Riverbank Area, and a Sports Area.
A new offering for 2010 is the Cowtown Wakepark along the Trinity River, where experts will give wakeboarding performances. Sign up at the Cowtown Wakepark booth, if you want to try some fancy footwork yourself – it’s free.

With Mother’s Day coming up, you can find something special for Mom at the Arts and Gift Market, where artisans display their wares at more than 40 craft booths. No need to pack a picnic; there are plenty of food stands for grazing, as well as beer, wine and margaritas to wash it all down.
Sunday, May 2 is Military Appreciation Day at Mayfest, so all active, reserve, and retired military personnel will receive free admission, along with three more guests. In keeping with the military theme, there will be drill team competitions, military music and an armed forces fly over.
Admission to Mayfest is $8 for adults, $5 for kids (6-12), and free for those 5 and under. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the official website or in person at the door. Check the official website for more information.
