Boston’s theater and performing arts calendar is full this spring. Check out this season’s great music, dance and theater offerings. 
Boston Lyric Opera presents Mozart’s Idomeneo re di Creta, April 23-May 4 at the Schubert Theater ( 265 Tremont St. ,617-542-4912)(Map). This is the story of Idomeneo, King of Crete, who is saved by Neptune, God of the Sea, from drowning and in gratitude makes a promise that he later realizes will exact a terrible price. Jason Collins sings the title role and Camille Zamora sings Ilia.The opera will be sung in Italian with projected English translation.
Boston Ballet kicks off its spring season with George Balanchine’s Coppelia, April 8-April 18, at the Opera House(539 Washington St. , 617-695-6955 )(Map). Coppelia is a charming comic story -ballet about a life-size dancing doll who creates havoc for Frantz and Swanhilda, a young village couple who are about to be married. Like the Nutcracker, Coppelia is based on a story by E.T.A. Hoffman and as in the classic holiday ballet ,Coppelia features children from the Boston Ballet school on stage during the performance.
Craig Lucas’ romantic comedy, Prelude to a Kiss will conclude the Huntington Theater Company’s 2009/2010 season.In this modern fairy tale, a bride switches places with a mysterious old man when he gives her a kiss at her wedding. Prelude will be performed at the Boston University Theater (264 Huntington Ave., Boston, 617-266-0800)(Map) May 14-June 13 .
