Beautiful Breakfast at Circular Quay’s City Extra
By night Circular Quay is a hive of activity, with cafes spilling onto the sidewalk. Arrive in the morning however and it’s a different story. I’ve often wondered whether the people of Sydney actually eat breakfast, as it’s often hard to find a place serving before work.
Thankfully though City Extra is open 24 hours a day. While my husband and I went there because there was no other breakfast option in close proximity, we were pleasantly surprised by our meals.
My husband raved about his double stack of pancakes served with whipped butter and maple syrup. He gushed that they were indeed the best pancakes he’s had since arrived in Australia five years ago. It looks like the Yanks don’t have the market cornered on this breakfast treat after all.
Meanwhile my bacon was crisp and delicious, served with a satisfying crunch without being dry and tasteless. My scrambled eggs were light and fluffy, with a little extra bite thanks to the sprinkling of chives.
We both ordered hash browns, although we probably could have split one between us. They were massive taking up most of our plate! How refreshing to find a café that doesn’t believe hash browns come frozen from a packet! These homemade treats were moist in the middle, yet delectably crunchy on the outside. Perfect!
Again, the breakfast was on the expensive side, but when it tastes this good I’m not about to quibble!
