And They’re Off & Running at Emerald Downs

Emerald Downs is off and running this week, with its 15th season of thoroughbred horse racing season kicking off Friday, April 9th.

horse racing The seasons promises exciting racing, along with a variety of fun special events throughout the season.  Emerald Downs works hard to make the track a family friendly destination, although wagering is allowed for those 18 and over only.  Here are a few of the always popular events:

  • May 1st – Kentucky Derby
  • June 3rd – Seniors Day every Thursday, with FREE admission and all Grandstand and Clubhouse Reserved Seats for fans 55 and older (ID required)
  • July 3rd – Spectacular fireworks display following the races
  • July 24th – Wiener Dog Races
  • August 21st – Run the Mile for charity
  • August 22nd – 75th running of the Longacre Mile

Be on the lookout for Facebook Fridays, along with lots of other special summer promotions, many offering free or discounted admissions, giveaways, or other special value added promotions.

Location:  2300 Emerald Downs Drive, Auburn (map)

Dates & Times:  The season runs April 9th – September 26th, 2011.  The first race is at 6 pm on Thursdays & Fridays; 2 pm on weekends and holidays.  Special events are scheduled throughout the season.

Admission:  $7 general admission, those 17 and under are admitted FREE.  Kids 13 and under must be accompanied by parent or guardian.  Military personnel admitted FREE (ID required).  Reserved Grandstand, Clubhouse and box seats are available for an additional charge.  You must be 18 years of age or older to wager.

Parking:  $3 for Preferred Parking on Thursday, $5 Friday, and $7 weekends and holidays.  $10 valet parking.  FREE parking in general lot.

Public Transportation:  Take any Sound Transit ST Express of King County Metro Transit bus that served the Auburn Sounder Station and Emerald Downs will provide a free shuttle service to the track.  Stable Area Tours: FREE Saturday morning stable tours are available by appointment.
