Blasts in Moscow, St. Petersburg Is Calm

I think you have heard this bad news about terrorism blasts on two Moscow subway stations. Though St. Petersburg has not been affected this time, additional security measures have been taken to enhance safety level.

The police was ordered to pay more attention to passengers, to check all suspicious people and things. The same instructions were given to those guarding airport Pulkovo and railway stations. Staff of transport companies and public services were instructed what to do in emergency.

But, of course, it does not look at all as if a war started or the city was blockaded by enemy’s troops. St. Petersburg continues to live its calm life filled with sunny weather and crowds of pupils visiting museums on their vacations. I’ve not even seen additional police forces on our subway today.

There is no panic, and people here seem not to be affected much, the bombings in the capital are not even a major theme for talks.

The only visible consequence that brought some troubles for residents and tourist was an anonymous call that said that two central  St. Petersburg subway stations  had been mined. People were forced to use alternative modes of transport which was not easy in a rush hour.

My common advice for you is to have enough time in reserve when you are travelling to or from St. Petersburg, especially when you go to or from Moscow. Safety measures may have bring some delays in the future.
