Ryanair: Getting Closer to St. Petersburg

now I can say that Ryanair has flights to Russia, and namely to St. Petersburg. But it’s completeley the truth, I mean, if you come to Pulkovo airport and try to book a ticket for a Ryan Air flight from here to Europe, you will fail. Because the Irish carrier landed not in Russia, but in Finland.

Paradox? No. Just the fact that as of March, 4 the company has two flights a week between Lappeenranta and Dusseldorf’s Weeze (Germany). Lappeenranta is located only 25 km from the Finnish-Russia border, and it takes only three hours to get to St. Petersburg. So, this Finnish airport is a bit further than many Europeans airports from their “metropolies”. It makes me say that Ryan Air has actually come to Russia, despite the fact it’s operating in Finland.

A flight to St. Petersburg from Dusseldorf starts in the morning, a return flight is scheduled in the middle of the day. For a time-table click the Ryanair’s site.

What this means for you. St. Petersburg is getting closer, and if you happen to visit Germany and then Russia is planned, it makes sense to use Ryaniar’s 32-euro ticktes (it’s an average company’s fare, figure for your flight may differ). And on the contrary: travel to Europe from here has become easier.

What you might be concerned about is a stable transport connection with Lappeenranta. I can reaasure you, such a connection exists. Many buses leave from the Vosstanya square in the center of St. Petersburg, many of them can also pick you up from your address. One of them is Avers, call +7 964 381 84 36. Personally checked.
