Seattle Mariners Play Ball

The crack of a bat, the slapping sound of a ball against a mitt, the ever-so-slightly warming air, and the smell of garlic fries.  It’s time for one of the time honored rites of spring – opening day of baseball.  The Seattle Mariners opening home game of the 2010 season pits the M’s against the Oakland A’s.

Safeco Field, The Safe Fans will flock to the park as a another generation of fans get to know and appreciate Ken Griffey Jr., a fan base that never knew him when he was known as “The Kid.”  It promises to be an exciting season with Ichiro, Felix Hernandez, and all the other Mariner players.  And, of course, there will be lots of speculation about whether this “could be the year.”

The M’s put together some great promotions and giveaways.  From Ken Griffey bobble-head night (April 16th) to Little League Day (May 2nd) to running the bases events, the team works hard to make Safeco Field a family friendly outing.  Check the promotional calendar if you’d like to plan your game day for one of the special promotional events.

Location: Safeco Field is at the intersection of First Avenue South & Edgar Martinez Drive South (named for the beloved former Mariner designated hitter) in the SoDo district (South of Dome). The corner is usually just referred to as First & Edgar. (map)

Dates & Times: Opening Day, April 12th, 2010. Closing day, October 3rd, 2010.  Dates, and times vary.  You can download and print out a full season schedule to keep for reference.

Tickets: Prices range from $7 (center field bleachers) to $65 (Terrace Club infield) for single game advance purchased seats.  Day of game tickets are slightly higher.  There are lots of special multi-game ticket packages in addition to a full season ticket.  Tickets can be purchased through the Mariners online, at the box off at Safeco Field, or at any of the ticket outlets. Tickets are also available through private parties, although caution is advised to make sure that you are not purchasing counterfeit tickets.
