Be Prince Charming on Aladdin’s Budget

Date night can get a little expensive these days.  So how do you show your special someone that you are a true Prince Charming when you have the budget of Aladdin? Many options await you at Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort.

Located outside the theme parks and next to the Disneyland hotels, The Downtown Disney District (map) is a promenade with truly something for everyone.  With free parking for up to three hours, or five following validation, guests can arrive on foot, monorail or magic carpet.

  • Catch a movie at the art deco AMC Theatres with 12 movie theaters to choose from all showing current releases and featuring love seat style leatherette stadium seating.  Like a blast from the past this 1920′s styled movie house, will start the evening off right.
  • After the movie, how about a little something sweet?  Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen serves up a nice variety of desserts while it offers up live jazz music almost nightly.  In keeping with the “low-key” theme,  the Jazz Kitchen Express offers lighter fare to go or eat on the patio and includes the New Orleans famed specialty coffees, beignets and bread pudding.
  • Other coffee drinks from La Brea Bakery Cafe or Compass Books Cafe can be sipped while sitting on a bench. Be sure to check the calendar of events and entertainment for the District as many musical “street” performers appear including violinist, Drew Tretick or the Tino Band.
  • Purchase tickets to a concert at the House of Blues where live music meets southern cuisine with a whole plateful of performance options.
  • If you like sports and are looking for a little more action, then the ESPN Zone might be just the ticket.  Enjoy dinner with a wide variety of food options  from appetizers to dessert. Then head to the Sports Arena for some lively fun and games and a little friendly competition

Some of my favorite evenings as a couple have included some of these romantic date choices.  From window shopping to sharing a dessert to listening to live music, Downtown Disney District offers a whole new world in date night options.
