The Fairmont Orchid honors Earth Hour
Honolulu City Lights Out program, a monthly Earth Hour on the third Saturday between 8-9 pm, is part of a nationwide initiative to save energy. The initiative was started by EarthHour.org, a global event organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to raise awareness about climate change.
This year’s Lights )ut will start at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2010.
For the third consecutive year, all 60 of Fairmont’s landmark hotels and resorts around the planet will participate in Earth Hour by turning off their lights for one hour, demonstrating an ongoing support of environmental awareness and energy conservation.
In addition to switching off principal lighting, The Fairmont Orchid [map] on the Kohala coast of the Big Island will mark this eco-friendly event by offering complimentary hot chocolate and s’mores roasted over an oceanside fire pit under the stars. Guests may also choose to dine by candlelight from 8:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Brown’s Beach House, the resort’s signature oceanfront restaurant.
The Fairmont Orchid is also celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a special anniversary package that includes 20% off its Best Available Rate and a 20% discount on all Food & Beverage, Spa and Recreation charges.
The Fairmont’s proactive display of energy awareness proves just how even the most luxurious hotels and resorts can go beyond just turning out the lights for an hour. They can promote a low carbon future in a creative yet comfortable way.
