Milk Used As Evidence? South Africa
During the years of Apartheid in the nation of South Africa, the people were separated into 3 distinctive groups. The whites, the blacks and the colored who were all those with lighter skin complexion than black, but to dark for white. Of the many restrictions and dividers placed upon the classes, one was related to milk distribution according to freshness. Delivery trucks were to deliver the freshest batch of milk to the whites, leaving the more “sour” milk for the coloreds and blacks.
While Nelson Mandela, noble peace prize winner and human rights activists, was taken refugee in a colored neighborhood as a black man, a glass of milk was left out on the window-sill of his hideout to turn sour from the suns light and heat. It was this sour glass of milk that alerted local officials of his presence in the colored community.
And to think…. He was simply thristy for a glass of his sour milk!
