Snap Shot Wednesday: Nightlights of Downtown Madrid
This is the first of my upcoming Snap Shot Wednesday series where I’ll be showcasing some of the best shots taken in Madrid or around the city.
Today’s feature brings us through the snazzy night lights of Gran Via in downtown Madrid.
Gran Vía: the main drag that runs through the heart of the city erupts with energy in the day and puts on an elegant glow by night. Madrid’s trendiest boutiques and stylish hotels line the boulevard while retro stores, independent design studios and offbeat eateries hide in its narrow alleyways.
From the cabaret-style drag show Gula Gula (Calle Gran Vía 1)(map) to musical theatres, there is a myriad of entertainment spots along Gran Vía. Seafood restaurants, classic tapas bars and international franchises are aplenty; expect to be spoiled for choice.
To sum up what Gran Vía has to offer, here are some of the highlights that you wouldn’t want to miss:
- Look sky high: Architecture marvels along Gran Via are some of the best masterpieces in the country.
- Tuck into a hefty meal at Abrasador (map) – famed for its juicy steaks and three-course set menus.
- Sip some cocktails with celebrities at Museo Chicote (map), a playground for the famous. Stars like Catherine Zeta Jones and Hugh Grant are regular visitors to the swanky cocktail bar.
- Get a cushy sleep at Emperador Hotel (map), a classical and elegant luxury hotel along Gran Via, with bars and conveniences nearby.
