The Cult of the Crab Returns
Seattle in March is a great place to be for all sorts of restaurant promotions, and at one of my very favorite ingredients moves front and center as the annual Cult of the Crab promotion returns.
Now in its fifth year, the Cult of the Crab celebrates the Northwest’s most beloved crustacean with a special menu that has us counting the ways of how and why we love those little devils. Crustaceans starring on the menu include Maryland Lump and Soft Shell Blue Crab (from Maryland and Chesapeake Bay), King Crab (from Hokkaido Bay in Japan, and the Barents and Bering Sea in Alaska), Maine Peekytoe Crab, and our own local Dungeness Crab. All harvesting is done in accordance with sustainable practices.
What’s on the menu? Just drool over these special items featuring delicious fresh crab:
- A Fancy Little Crab Louie prepared with asparagus, tomato, egg, olives, and Dungeness crab, served with a Louie dressing ($12)
- Ice Cold Fresh Crab Tasting gives you a chance to try Alaska Dungeness, Maryland Blue Crab and Peekytoe Crab. Sort of like a wine flight, only with crab. ($21)
- Dungeness Banh Mi Sandwich featured Dungeness crab in this classic Vietnamese sandwich, along with picked daikon and carrots, head cheese, cilantro, and jalapeno mayo ($12)
- Crab and Sweet Pea Panna Cotta featured a space carrot broth and fried taro sticks ($10)
- Blue Crab Benedict has artichoke and tasso ham salad, hollandaise, poached egg, crouton, and delicious blue crab ($14/$28)
- Maryland Soft Shelled Crab served with a green bean, cucumber, almond and shaved fennel salad ($32)
- Steamed Red King Crab Tasting lets you taste and compare King Crab from three different locations (Barents Sea, Hokkaido Bay, Bering Sea) to see how location makes a difference ($34/$68)
- Maryland Blue Crab Ravioli served with shaved asparagus, butter-braised leeks, and lemon zest ($29)
This is one cult that no one is going to try to talk you out of joining!
