New on Chicago’s Dining Scene

With spring almost here, the weather will soon turn warm enough to eat al fresco. Celebrate spring with a night out at one of these restaurants new to Chicago’s dining scene.

Purple Pig (500 N. Michigan Ave.; map it; 312-464-1744) – The brains behind popular restaurants Heaven on Seven and Mia Francesca have teamed up at this River North 70-seat Mediterranean restaurant. Pork-inspired dishes include pig tongue, pig liver pate, and sheep’s milk ricotta with pork neckbone gravy.

Macku Sushi (2239 N Clybourn Ave.; map it; 773.880.8012) – The former location for the Italian Luna Caprese has turned Asian serving delicious hand-rolls, sashimi, and nigiri.

Kith and Kim (1119 W. Webster Ave.; map it; 773-472-7070) – With The French Laundry on his resume, Chef David Carrier is one of Chicago’s newest stars. On the menu are burgers on house-made brioche, crocks of chicken liver pate, and littleneck clams.

Ria (Elysian Hotel, 11 E. Walton St.; map it; 312-880-4400) – The Gold Coast’s Elysian Hotel is home to the dinner-only, more formal Ria where you can dine on a “seasonal, globally-influenced menu” with entrees such as dry-aged ribeye, wild Portuguese turbot, and Peking duck. Tip: The more casual Balsan is adjacent. While casual expect interesting dishes such as veal heart with pears, parmesan, and mustard.

Francesca’s on Clark (200 E. Chestnut St.; map it; 312-482-8800) – The last “Francesca’s” to open in Chicago before the brand goes nationwide, Francesca’s on Clark (which has the brand’s signature decor with white tablecloths and a fireplace) serves dishes inspired by the cuisines of Rome, Tuscany, and Umbria. Expect to find risottos, pizzas, and pastas, as well as chicken and fishes entrees on the menu.
