A Watering Hole Downsized – Sydney’s Original Small Bar

Small bars seem to be popping up everywhere in Sydney, but Small Bar in Erskine Street was there before the rest.

This converted tri-level terrace house has been doing the small bar thing longer than any of the others, and it shows. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, making the bar a great place for catching up with friends and socialising with co-workers once the final whistle blows. The drinks flow freely, and many of the wines are available by the glass. The wine list features a solid mix of New Zealand, French, and local drops.

While you’ll come from the drinks, you’ll stay for the food. For a small bar, this place has a pretty big menu. If you’re in the mood for grazing consider pork spring rolls, pate, or the antipasto and cheese plates. The lamb burger, Mediterranean chicken salad, and everyone’s favourite, fish and chips can satisfy larger appetites. The meals are served until 10 pm, so there’s no rush.

There are some wonderful small bars in Sydney, but this is still the one that inspires the rest. It’s not hard to see why.
