Viva Madrid!
Flamenco shoes? Check.
A craving for some tapas and sangria? Check.
A hunger for culture and art? Check.
With these pointers in hand, I’ll be bringing you on a journey through Spain’s vibrant capital bursting with culture, history and latest happenings.
My name’s Nellie Huang, PlanetEye’s new Madrid local expert and full-time travel writer. With a love for all things Spanish (including my other-half who happens to be a Spaniard), I’m proud to say that Spain flows in my blood: I sprout Spanish vulgarities, I eat at odd hours (lunch at 2pm and dinner at 10pm) and I take a daily siesta.
Originally from Singapore, I’ve crossed continents – from camping in the deserts of Egypt to living the city life in London – to finally find home in Spain. Having lived in Madrid for over 3 years, I know the city inside out – the best paella restaurant, the bar with the best view, or the cheapest flea market in town… you name it.
So why Madrid? With contenders like Barcelona and Paris, Madrid is often left under the shadow of its neighbouring metropolis. OK, Madrid hasn’t got an Eiffel Tower or Sagrada Familia, but this underrated city is erupting with Europe’s trendiest boutiques, hippest artists and biggest parties.
I’ll be writing about Madrid’s attractive sights, best kept secrets, ethnic culture – all from an insider’s perspective. If you’re looking to get under the skin of Madrid, stay tuned!

Is this you in the photo? Why Prague and not Madrid as background?
You noticed! Yes it’s Prague, chose this photo of me because of the mysterious glow. Should get a better one in Madrid. Thanks for dropping by!
Yay Nellie! Can’t wait to see more about Madrid – I visited there a couple years ago and loved it
Thanks Abbie, Madrid is an awesome place to live in – with the parks, food and nightlife all packed into one vibrant city.
