Sydney Opens New Cycleways as Part of Sustainable City Plans

Three new cycleways have opened around Alexandria today.

The separated bike paths in Bourke Road, Mandible, and Bowden Streets are the first roads to open as part of the City’s Sustainable Sydney 2030 initiative. By this target year a 200 kilometres of cycle network is planned for Sydney.

“The City of Sydney is investing $76M to build this cycle network, and we are pleased the Federal Government is supporting our plan with a commitment of a further $1.79M,” said Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP.

It’s good news for Alexandria residents, who have one of the highest percentages of residents cycling to work in Sydney. The council hopes the new paths will boost bike-riding commuters even further. After all, on a bike you can save the planet and lose a couple of kilos at the same time!
