Rio in the Fall

After months of blazing sunshine and sizzling heat, temperatures in Rio have now taken a tumble and autumn is well and truly in the air.

A Cloudy Day in Rio

While it would be laughable to say that things ever get really cold in Rio, autumn and winter do bring their fair share of chilly days, so make sure you come prepared for any weather eventuality.

While tropical downpours can appear from nowhere at any time of year, these can feel like blessed relief in the sticky heat of summer – but less so on a chilly autumn evening.

If you’re heading for a break in Rio at any time from March through to the arrival of summer in December, make sure you bring some warmer clothes as well as teeny tiny summer
wear.

While temperatures are still liable to reach a scorching 40 degrees or more on clear, sunny days, there is always the possibility of a cold front coming along to spoil the fun.

Bring all the shorts, t-shirts, vests and skimpy beach wear as you can fit in your suitcase/backpack, but be sure to pack a couple of pairs of jeans, a jacket and footwear that’s a little more substantial than the ubiquitous Havaianas flip flops.

Sunseekers needn’t panic – there’s still plenty of opportunity for lazy beach days even in the depths of what passes for ‘winter’ in Rio, but just don’t take the sunny weather for granted. When the sun does put his hat on and come out to play, make like the locals and head straight for the beach  - leave indoor activities like trips to museums and galleries for rainy days. Bring the teeny weeny trunks and bikinis, of course, just don’t forget the umbrella.
