Bratwurst und Bier at Deutsches Haus German Fan Fest
Drop by Deutsches Haus for a real German Fan Festduring the 2010 Winter Olympics. Every night starting at 7 pm, Accostica, a regional band from Thuringia will entertain and during the daytime you can watch the Games on a large screen while you enjoy some excellent German beer and food. Kostritzer Schwarz bier (dark ale) is brewed in Bad Kostritz with more than 450 years of tradition. Treat yourself to bratwurst on a bun and other Thuringian delicacies such as dumplings and grilled sausage, and Thuringer Rostbratl, a spicy flavored pork chop or apple strudel and other desserts. Prices ranged from $7 plus tax for a bratwurst and $8.25 for beer.
Thuringia is one of the smallest states of Germany and is known as the Land of Sports and the success of their athletes in winning medals at many past Olympic Games.
My friend and I went there Saturday just after noon and didn’t have to wait too long to get inside the big tent that makes up the hospitality house. There are long tables inside where you can sit to watch the Games or listen to entertainment in the evenings: a real Germany beer garden atmosphere. Later in the day the lineup went as far back as the entrance to the Waterfront Station. So get there early!
German Fan Fest is open from 10 – 5 pm free admission and from 6 pm to 2 am the admission is $10 CAD. You can buy your tickets in advance and enter without the queue and reserve seats until 7 pm.
