What’s on Edinburgh – Valentine’s Edition

Hey you love birds!  If you’re looking for something to do for Valentine’s Day, this What’s on Edition will not help – you’re too late.  (But you can try one of our suggestions for romance in Edinburgh on Valentine’s Day.) But here are some tips for what’s coming up this week.

Vive La France! Scotland once had a very close relationship with France via the Auld Alliance.  Learn more about French/Scottish history at the Institut Francais d’Ecosse on the 18th 6-7:30 over a glass of wine and good conversation.

Join the Poetry Olympics.  20th of Feb from 1-4pm you’ll find poetry and athletics coming together in Holyrood Park. Races, prizes and fun all guaranteed.

Laugh in the Illicit Still.  Trust me, it’s legal, but the laughs at the Illicit Still.  They’ve got a new improv comedy show coming up – check it out the 16th at 8:30.   A full range of drinks and brews available at the bar.

Film and Food.  Again with the strange combinations, The Filmhouse is showing the underside of the American food industry.  Probably best not to come after a full meal.  Playing 12-18th, see website for times.

This isn’t your Father’s Ugly Duckling.  Remember the old ugly duckling fairytale?  Well, you can relive it but this time in comedy fashion at the Main Theatre (Broughton High School).  15 Feb–20 Feb 7.30; Wed & Sat 2.30 & 7.30

Gay-Friendly Rockclimbing.  Indoor rock climbing at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena (in Ratho Station west of the city).  Before or after enjoy a walk on the neighbouring canal.  Event 21st Feb 12 noon, tickets required – book at outdoorlads.com

Go Celtic.  Kate Rusby is a fantastic British folk artist and is playing at Usher Hall 18th April.  Yes, I know that isn’t this week.  But you should book your tickets this week. :)
