Cure Your Taco Cravings: Dorado in Brookline

Who says you can’t find good Mexican food in Boston? The streetcar suburb of Brookline  supports several locally-owned  taquerias all within walking distance of each other. Dorado Tacos & Cemitas is  the new kid on the block and is getting lots of attention lately. Dorado is a cutely stylish spot – with only 7 bar stools and 8 tables. So, if you are lucky to get a seat, grab it and enjoy  your two taco plate- with  a choice of tacos, Mexican rice and a charred jalapeno for just $5.99.

Of course , you can play it safe with the grilled chicken or sirloin. But real taco aficionados may want to go for the Baja -style fish tacos. You can choose from among three types of fish either battered or grilled and served with green cabbage, salsa fresca and crema . And those going meatless don’t have to resign themselves to yet another quesadilla. Dorado’s tacos have tasty vegetarian taco filling options – a chile marinated portabella mushroom or  grilled zucchini and red pepper with roasted tomato salsa.

Dorado’s sells a lot more than tacos. Dorado’s cemitas ($5.99) are especially popular for those with hearty appetites. These Mexican sandwiches are made on a soft roll with avocado, cilantro, cheese, black beans, chipotle adoba and your choice of fillings. Go authentic – order your cemita with pork loin Milanesa- you won’t be disappointed!

Other interesting menu choices are  a wonderfully limey chicken tortilla soup ($3.99) and the Dorado salad($6.99)with romaine, watermelon, jicama with queso fresco. Big spigot glass jugs hold a choice of  aguas frescas like  Jamaica Hibiscus. And Dorado even has a liquor license –  both beer and sangria are  available.

Need another reason to dine here? Dorado is green Mexican food heaven-  the restaurant uses biodegradable plates and utensils, has energy-efficient lighting, and composts too. These are tacos you can feel good about!
