Sydney’s Best Wet Weather Activities

It seems like the rain is setting in, but that’s no reason not to enjoy Sydney. While the beaches and great outdoors grab all the headlines, there are still plenty of fun things to do inside!

Sydney Wildlife World: All the fun of the zoo but without the drizzle factor. This indoor animal park has a host of native creatures, including some of the cuddliest koalas and the not so cuddly new (and massive!) croc. If you are still looking for a wildlife fix, you can head next door to Sydney Aquarium when you’re done.

Get cultured: Museums are made for gloomy days and Sydney has plenty to choose from. Art lovers should check out the Art Gallery of NSW or Museum of Contemporary Art, while the Powerhouse Museum and the Australian Museum offer a variety of displays.

Indy Karts: Forget the outdoor go-kart parks. These motorcycle-powered vehicles at Revesby’s indoor course are the fastest of their kind in Australia.

Get active: While most athletic activities in Sydney take advantage of our usually sunny weather, there are a few indoor options. Consider the indoor rock climbing walls of Climb Fit in St Leonards, or practice your plies at a class at Sydney Dance Company.

Laser tag: A game of laser tag is fun for the whole family (although don’t be surprised if the kids kick some major adult butt!). Penrith has Lazer Zone, while Darling Harbour’s M9 Laser Skirmish is great for city dwellers.

Knock down some pins: Ten-pin bowling was one of my favourite wet-weather activities as a kid, and now I’m grown up it hasn’t lost any of its appeal. AMF bowling alleys are located all around the city and suburbs. It’s bound to be popular at this time of year, so book a lane online to avoid a lengthy wait.

Chill out: Nothing gets you in a blissed out state of mind like a rainy day. So why not take advantage of it with a class at Bikram Yoga College of India. This Darlinghurst-based centre is heated to 38-degrees, so it’s the perfect refuge on gloomy days. If that sounds like a little too much effort, consider blessing out at a day spa. I love Ayurve and Endota Day Spas.
