Three Great Races Coming Up in Orange County
If your New Year’s resolution was to run a race or try a triathlon, look no farther! Beginner or advanced, these races are sure to challenge any level athlete.
Orange County is one of those places where you rarely need to run on a treadmill due to inclement weather. This makes is a great place to train for a spring race as the days are getting longer and temperatures are perfect for a long run or bike ride. A fast and fun 8K (5 miles) race through rolling hills and long straight aways near the Brea Mall. The race benefits academics and instrumental music at Brea Olinda High.

There is a 5K and a 10K for runners or walkers, and is family friendly. There are also kids’ races (7 total) for ages 4-12 ranging from 1/4 to 1 mile.

Jr./Sr. (15 – 17 or 60+) $20
Youth 5K (prehighschoolers 14 and under) $20
Kids’ 1/4 – 1 Mile Races (ages 4-12): $20

This sprint triathlon only race course makes a great first tri for anyone. It was my first one two years ago, and the distances were just right.
Course:
- 1/2 mile swim in the Newport Back Bay
- 15 mile bike ride through Backbay Drive and Eastbluff Drive (including a couple killer hills!)
- 3 mile run with one hill up to the turn-around

Unfortunately the wiener dogs will have to wait until summer for the Wiener Nationals. Now that’s our kinda race!
