What to do on a rainy day in Honolulu

For the past week Honolulu has experienced intermittent rain, but while the weather hasn’t been the greatest, people’s spirits have been high. That’s because even though the beach isn’t the ideal place to spend the day, there are plenty of other great things to do that don’t entail watching soap operas and MTV.  While Honolulu is a great place to be outdoors, there are plenty of great things to do that don’t require an umbrella, windbreaker, and galoshes.

Give these Honolulu activities a try:

  • RETAIL THERAPY: There’s something really rewarding about people watching and/or spending money at the mall, and Ala Moana Shopping Center is a great place to do both.  Whether you have cash or are strapped for it, a whole day can be spent in this covered mall.
  • MOVIE MADNESS: Rainy days are the perfect time to catch up on movie-watching.  There are 4 great places to catch movies in town — Ward Stadium and Dole Cannery have a great selection of blockbuster films, Kahala Theaters tends to play indie and dated movies, and the Movie Museum plays 1-2 films throughout the day.
  • MUSEUMS: Honolulu has some fabulous museums.  From art at the Honolulu Academy of Arts to Hawaiian culture and science at the Bishop Museum, you’ll be sure to end your day smarter than it started.

Keep in mind that Hawaii is called both “The State of Aloha” and “The Rainbow State.”  After the rain comes a gorgeous bow of colors, and at the end of that rainbow are some delightful and worthwhile experiences.
