Epcot’s World Showcase Wine Walk
Perhaps you have heard the tales of guests at the World Showcase embarking on an adventure that requires eating, drinking or tasting a specific food or beverage item at each of the host countries, and all the while keeping record of their journey around the World.
If not, the tale goes something like this … In the gift shops of Epcot theme park at Walt Disney World Resort (map), a Passport can be purchased for guests, specifically young ones, to keep account of their journey around the World Showcase. While young guests would visit each country and create a craft or have their name written in the native language or receive a passport stamp in an area known as Kidcot Fun Stops, adults felt they were missing something.
And so, as the story continues, one adult came up with the idea to try a dessert or chocolate at each country, while others ventured out to drink the national beverage at each country, wine in France, beer in Germany, Tequila in Mexico, and you get the picture.
With no official information on any Disney website about these adult passport activities, many chalked this up to urban myth or prank concocted by Disney Mom’s Gone Wild.
Let me assure you this in not a tall tale, and as a matter of fact there is now a World Showcase Wine Walk. With the purchase of an official Wine Walk Passport for $20.00, guests receive the opportunity to taste two ( 2 oz. portion) wines from three different locations:
- The Weinkeller in Germany Pavilion
- Enoteca Castello in Italy Pavilion
- Aux Vins de France in France Pavilion
Guests begin their journey with the purchase of the passport at any of these locations and are free to take their time and leisurely enjoy the remainder of the World as they stroll to each designated “tasting” country. The passport gives the name and description of each of the wines you will be tasting as well as suggested pairings with each.
While you may take this journey in any order you choose, my preference would be to begin in Germany, then France with a side trip to Boulangerie Patisserie for a cheese plate as the suggested pairing here is cheese, and finally Italy, picking up some chocolate along with way, as you guessed it, the pairing of choice here is dark chocolate.
There is no official word yet on a Beers of the World Tour, so beer lovers, I am afraid you will have to go the way of the do-it-yourself version for the time being. I will keep you posted. In the meantime, Cheers, Everyone!
