Tea Time at Confitería Las Violetas
Daytime is definitely the time to visit Buenos Aires´ famous Confitería Las Violetas, one of the other more beautiful cafes in the city, not only for the delicious cakes and refined light lunches on the menu, but especially to see its beautiful stained glass window vitreous at their best, with daylight streaming through them majestically.
Located in the traditional barrio de Almagro, it was established over 120 years ago and (apart for a recent closure for restoration) they have been serving their dazzling goodies ever since. With a bakery on the premises, everything is fresh and prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality, service and beautiful surroundings.
Although the confitería is a way off the tourist path and it is not featured in most guidebooks, the word is out and lots of tourists do find their way here. Don’t be put off by this though, if you are only going to visit one of Buenos Aires’ famous cafés I would recommend this one over others.
Try their classic breakfast: café con leche with three croissants. They serve American style breakfasts. Also, try the special afternoon tea treat, the María Cala tea service. It is a feast of sandwiches, cakes, scones and pastries straight out of an English storybook.
Las Violetas definitely deserves a visit. Just to give you a hint, check this cool video.
