Coal Fired Pizza?? Who Knew

So I was down in the greater Ft. Lauderdale area over Chirstmas with my family.  While in the area we were taken to Anthony’s Coal Fire Pizza and I have to tell you it was the best pizza I have ever had.  For those newbies like me, coal fired basically means that the pizza is baked in an oven that contains coal as opposed to wood.  The pizza comes out “well done” think slightly burnt toast or popcorn.

So, when did this new phenomenan start?  Who knew it existed and more importantly why isn’t it popping up all over here in Toronto?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Jonah

Pizza cooked in a coal fired brick oven?
It’s the the way it it is done in New Haven, CT.

    It’s to die for…
Frank Pepe’s, Sally’s, Modern, daVinnci, Bar Bru Room, Grand Apizza, Sal’s Apizza, are the big names in the New Haven Area.

When I was in the Air Force travelling across the country the thing I missed most was the “New Haven Style Pizza.” People were always telling me of places that they thought had good pizza and I was disappointed every time. It’s sad when a pizza from Pizza Hut or, out of the freezer at the supermarket is better than what the local pizza house has to offer. But then again if they don’t know what they are missing…..
